Valentina E. Balas received the Ph.D. degree in applied electronics and telecommunications from the Polytechnic University of Timisoara. She is currently a Full Professor with the Department of Automatics and Applied Software, Faculty of Engineering, Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad, Romania. She is also the Director of the Intelligent Systems Research Centre, Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad. She is an author of more than 250 research articles in refereed journals and international conferences. Her research interests are in intelligent systems, fuzzy control, soft computing, smart sensors, information fusion, modeling, and simulation. She is a member of EUSFLAT, SIAM, and a member of TC-Fuzzy Systems (IEEE CIS), a member of TC-Emergent Technologies (IEEE CIS), a member in TC-Soft Computing (IEEE SMCS). From 2005 to 2016, she served as the General Chair for the International Workshop Soft Computing and Applications (SOFA), in seven editions, held at Romania and Hungary. She participated in many international conferences as an Organizer, the Honorary Chair, the Session Chair, and a member of steering, advisory or international program committees. She was the past Vice-President (Awards) of IFSA International Fuzzy Systems Association Council, from 2013 to 2015, and is currently a Joint Secretary of the Governing Council of Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (FIM). She is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Advanced Intelligence Paradigms (IJAIP) and International Journal of Computational Systems Engineering (IJCSysE), a member of Editorial Board 12 IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica, September 2019, a member of several national and international journals, and is an evaluator expert for national, international projects, and Ph.D. thesis.
